RSPB TALK - BRITAIN'S BIGGEST GROUSE: THE LIFE OF THE CAPERCAILLIE
Marquee
Speaker: Tim Poole
Tim has worked for the RSPB for just over 2 years. The Capercaillie Project is a partnership between RSPB, Scottish Natural Heritage and Forestry Commission Scotland. The project was set up in response to the dramatic decline of the capercaillie across Scotland, culminating in a population of about 1000 birds in 1998. Since then, the project has had many successes, including the removal of large lengths of redundant deer fences and creation of high quality capercaillie habitat. Tim's role is primarily to provide an advisory service to forest agents and land managers on how best to manage forests for capercaillie. Before taking on the challenge to help retain capercaillie in the pinewoods of Scotland, Tim worked on a small conservation project in southern France.
