Forestry Commission Scotland and Wood for Good are co-promoting three afternoon seminars intended to cover a spectrum that ranges from the carbon benefits ensuing from making greater use of timber in construction, through current and pending legislative changes to the actual specification and procurement of home grown timber, the latter with examples from companies that have found strong commercial advantage in making full use of home-grown timber in their products.
The three Forestry Commission Scotland/Wood for Good seminars carry CPD endorsement and certification provided by Edinburgh Napier University’s Forest Products Research Institute.
Seminar #1: The Carbon Benefits of Using Timber in Construction
The carbon benefits of using timber come through application, both in terms of construction practice and through creative response to regulatory change The seminar explores two important routes to securing significant benefit from ‘thinking carbon’ in new housing design and development.
The Low Carbon Building Technology Gateway
This part of the seminar will describe the new SPIRIT-CIAC innovation support framework designed to assist future low carbon timber-based housing. This project forms the keystone for ISC’s low carbon building technologies gateway and the seminar will outline the ways in which product manufacturers and a wide range of SME’s can benefit from the project.
