Scotland' Housing Expo

Albyn Housing Society will showcase the latest in eco and budget friendly living during Scotland’s Housing Expo next month.

The Invergordon-based housing association is funding the development of all its properties at the Expo at a cost of £1.2million.

Visitors to the Expo will have a sneak-peek into the future of affordable housing. One of Albyn’s newest developments, The Apartments, in Plot 8, is specially designed to provide sustainable and low energy homes and will be opening its doors to visitors during the exhibition.

Calum Macaulay, Chief Executive of Albyn Housing said: “Scotland’s Housing Expo offers people an insight into this unique lifestyle opportunity. Through a low cost ownership scheme shared equity owners will be able to own some of the most innovative designs around.”

The Apartment development boasts a number of green features including being heated by a central wood pellet biomass boiler. This is the first time Albyn has used small scale biomass methods in its homes. The heating system significantly reduces carbon emissions compared to traditional oil, gas or electricity. Other features of the development include floor to ceiling glazing to maximise solar gain, as well as low energy light fittings and appliances.

The housing association worked in close partnership with Keppie Design and William Gray Construction to develop The Apartments. The three-storey building of six urban flats boasts an excellent position at the Expo, and is a landmark within the development.

Scotland’s Housing Expo will be held at Balvonie Braes in Inverness and takes place from 1 – 31 August. It provides a fantastic opportunity for visitors to explore Albyn’s properties at their leisure.
