Children visiting Scotland’s Housing Expo will be able to build their own unique and colourful houses thanks to support from one of the development contractors, Robertson Highland and Expo partner, Sust.
Robertson Highland has donated a truckload of LEGO to the Expo, which will be placed in one of the homes built by the developer. As well as offering a space for kids to get creative the home will also be used to inform visitors about the construction industry, providing information about Robertson Highland as a business and also featuring Inverness College School of Construction & Forestry and Charleston Academy to highlight education in construction.
Recently Robertson Highland Managing Director Raymond More presented the LEGO to local youngsters Orla Ni Eadhra and Max Hampton to test out their creative skills before it was delivered to the Expo site. Following Scotland’s Housing Expo the company will donate the LEGO to local community groups and charities that support children.
Robertson has considerable experience with sustainable and eco-friendly construction and was responsible for building the Scottish Natural Heritage headquarters in Inverness, which at the time was the most environmentally friendly office building in the UK.
Raymond More said: “Scotland’s Housing Expo is an important development in shaping the future of house building in Scotland and we are proud to be part of it. People visiting Plot 20 will not only be able to view an eco-friendly home, they can also find out about the work that is being done to educate the next generation of construction talent about building for a better, greener future.”
People of all ages can also get creative with the kids through the Remodelling Home event that has been specially created for Scotland\'s Housing Expo by Claystation, in collaboration with Sust.,which is the Scottish Government’s body to promote sustainable design in the built environment.
With scale models of Scotland, Inverness and the Expo site visitors can indulge in the creation of new cityscapes - by collaboratively remodelling their built environment for the 21st century. Remodelling Home provides people with an opportunity to design their own house, street city or country in plasticine for fun and debate.
Kate Hendry, Programme Manager of Sust, said: “Remodelling Home raises awareness of our built environment, encouraging people who live and work in Scotland and beyond to take a closer look at the houses and spaces around them and actively engage in their rethinking and redesigning.”
The Claystation Remodelling Home event and Robertson Highland exhibition and LEGO at Plot 20 will feature throughout Scotland’s Housing Expo which runs from 1-31 August at Milton of Leys off the A9 at Inverness.
