CITY’S TOURISM AND LEISURE BUSINESSES SUPPORT EXPO MARKETING DRIVE

The leisure and tourist industry in Inverness is gearing up to support Scotland’s Housing Expo.

Over 20,000 marketing leaflets are being distributed to organisations and groups including the Inverness Hoteliers Association and Inverness Guest House Association to support the promotional drive for the month-long event.

The leaflets will be placed in hotel and guesthouse foyers and welcome packs throughout the summer to encourage guests to visit the Expo at Milton of Leys, which runs from 1 to 31 August.

August is the busiest time for the hotel and accommodation industry according to the Associations, which will help to boost interest in the Expo.

Chair of the Inverness Hoteliers Association, Fraser Peterkin said: “This is a great opportunity during peak session for our members’ guests and locals to be attracted to something completely different that Inverness has not seen before. It’s a very exciting project that I am sure will be a great success.

“The leaflets will be in welcome packs placed in every room of our hotels which will help guests plan their stay in the city.”

Brad Norris, chair of the Inverness Guest House Association said: “Our members get a large cross section of guests from the UK and Europe during August so there’s potential that the Expo will attract a lot of international visitors.

“We’ll be placing the leaflets in welcome packs in rooms but also telling guests about the Expo. I think it will appeal to people for different reasons as I am personally interested in the house design, refurbishment and technology aspects.”

The Expo marketing drive has also expanded to reach schools across the city as every schoolchild in Inverness will receive a leaflet to take home. The distribution follows a £60,000 award from the Inverness Common Good Fund, which enables every child accompanied by an adult to attend the Expo for free.

Chair of Scotland’s Housing Expo Board, Jean Urquhart said: \"I have no doubt that visitors to the Highlands would want to attend the Expo - it is THE place to go during August and with all of our hospitality providers recommending it we look forward to welcoming thousands of visitors.\"
